When The Bell Stops Ringing: The Afterthought Of The WWE Women’s Division.

Something is missing from the Women's division in the WWE. The current state of women's wrestling has been nothing short of lackluster. Of bare minimum. And whatever is in the air of the WWE has become so apparent that the IWC (internet wrestling community) is talking. The influx of posts and videos on social media this week is hard to ignore.
It makes you think of the viral #givedivasachance movement on social media in 2015, which changed the trajectory of how the division was presented. It led to matches longer than 30 seconds, storylines that rivaled the men's, and history-making main events. And now, 11 years later, it feels like we are in another slump of women's wrestling.
From there being 0 women's matches on a show, or how long a women's match is, to women's championships not being defended on stages that are supposed to highlight their champions and competitors. Having to witness inconsistent storylines, recycled characters, using stables as crutches, and not using the talent remaining to its full potential. The momentum we had in 2018-2023 has started to fizzle out.
In this day and age, there is no excuse why the women are not only sidelined but also a second thought. It's exhausting, which seems to be on brand for the WWE in recent years. With so much talent in the ring, on the mic, and everything in between, the company has the potential to have one of the best women's divisions on the globe. And yet, the creative team holds back. They worry about pushing new men's talent down our throats while simultaneously shoving the same storylines in our faces for ticket sales.
So what does it take this time around for things to change? Will another hashtag hold today as it did back then? Or does the internal issue that continues to fester outweigh the voice of the fans? In the end, all we can do as fans and consumers is give the women the support they need. Through voicing our opinions and frustrations, being loud, standing up for women's wrestling, and always showing up. There may have been a “table set” from what we've had decades prior, but there is currently no food on that table.
